Outline and bibliography look good but would benefit from greater detail!

Glad to see you were able to get the Michigan Journal of Community Service! I saw the source, but can’t access a digital copy, and we don’t have it in our library. :( Looks like lots of good articles in there.

It might help to include some theory/definition about the digital divide in the intro, to help segue into your solid foundation in service learning (good sources, and it looks like the bulk of your paper will be about that).

It’s come to my attention through this class that there seem to be two seperate groups within those on the downside of the digital divide: those who are old and those who are less well-to-do financially. I think you have a unique opportunity to talk about the influence of low-income levels of a neighborhood on the level of ICT fluency. Having lived in the city of Pittsburgh my entire life I’m familiar with the demographics of East Liberty and I think you should definitely focus part of your paper on analyzing the low-income factor. I mention thsi because you put “Eash Liberty Community” in parentheses as if you weren’t sure you were going to write about it. I think it would be beneficial.

This is a solid outline. As we discussed, it is useful to set up your paper with battling theories about SL and the digital divide and them make sure your observations and other evidence link directly back to those theories and debates. One way to think of this is that your paper will need an overall architecture and at key points, you will need to make the connections back to that architecture explicit. Don’t assume the reader can make the connection, you must do this for me. Keep going and start writing as soon as possible.

  5. Jae Says:

Robert, it is good that you have various type of experience to compare as you stated in your third chapter. Even though I’m doing the service learning at the same place as you do, I haven’t got the chance to observe the difference. Good luck!

  6. Laura Saloiye Says:

I like it. I can’t work on a reflection paper when I know all the details to start- this is a 15 page reflection paper for heaven’s sake not a book or a dissertation.

After looking over your outline one point that really stood out for me was

    B. Statement of problem/question: Analyzing subjective experience

I think this is an area I do not necessarily address in my own analysis and that may want to use as a concluding thought in my own paper.

I like your approach in interrelating your experience into the paper. That was something that I had a difficult time trying to do with my own.

    Good luck!
